The duo Koppetsch/Bellheim

Lutz Koppetsch and Markus Bellheim have something in common: a love of chamber music. They give not only contemporary but also classical programmes. Works for saxophone solo played by Lutz Koppetsch round of the repertoire. Their musical co-operation and understanding functioned intuitively from the very beginning. For them, this combination of piano and saxophone is an exciting adventure.

The duo’s repertoire

The duo repertoire encompasses many contemporary works such as those by Denisov, Takcas and Desenclos. Some programmes have a dedicated theme, with French music by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Milhaud, Florent Schmitt and others being but one example. Another programme skilfully combines Baroque works and modern ones, with composers as diverse as Bach, Handel, Schop, Denisov or Stockhausen being represented.

Lutz was member of the Alliage Quintett from 2004 to 2009 - The French term “alliage” is the name for a blend of various elements. Just as the material of the saxophone is a blend of copper and zink, the four young people also see themselves as a blend of various backgrounds forming an ensemble of musicians. None of the three members of the ensemble, who are all successful in their respective fields, would ever want to renounce from performing in classical recitals, conservatory teaching, or playing in orchestras of high standard. To the contrary - it is the confrontation of tradition and avantgarde in particular, the enjoyment of the existing and the curiosity with something still to create that keeps motivating the three musicians.

They meet for occasional projects to study music which is particularly composed for them. The focus is on cooperation with young, upcoming composers to give them an adequate platform by performig and recording their new pieces , and combining them with already established works.
